Next financial crisis may stem from cyberattack or geopolitical shock: RBI Governor

RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra cautioned that the next financial crisis may be triggered by geopolitical shocks, cyberattacks, or technology failures rather than originating within the banking system. He emphasised the need for stronger resilience across markets, payments, non-bank financial institutions, and critical infrastructure.
Malhotra acknowledged that India's financial system remains robust but warned that current resilience does not provide immunity from future shocks. His remarks highlight growing concerns about vulnerabilities in the digital and geopolitical dimensions of global finance.
