Police, Congress Workers Clash in Rewa Over Hospital Death; Tear Gas Fired

Police and Congress workers clashed in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh on Thursday during a protest over the death of pregnant woman Kalpana Mishra and her newborn at a government hospital. Hundreds of Congress workers attempting to march towards Sirmour Square were stopped by police barricades, leading to a scuffle in which tear gas was fired. Jhabua MLA Vikrant Bhuria sustained an eye injury, alleging he was hit by a policeman's baton.
Congress has been protesting at Agrasen Square for five days, with Mishra's father on an indefinite hunger strike at Sirmour Square for nine days demanding action. Congress state president Jitu Patwari reached Rewa, joining the protest and meeting with Mishra's father. He announced all Congress MLAs would raise the case in the Assembly and the party would approach the Governor and Chief Secretary.
Meanwhile, junior doctors at Shyam Shah Medical College and Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa have withdrawn from outpatient and elective services, citing workplace safety concerns and alleged violence against medical staff. The Junior Doctors Association demanded enhanced security and a one-attendant-per-patient policy. Emergency and critical services continue.
