SAD, Congress Demand Expulsion of AAP Minister Balkar Singh Over Alleged Video Incident

The Shiromani Akali Dal and Congress launched a scathing attack on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday, accusing him of shielding AAP minister Balkar Singh after an alleged video showed the minister making inappropriate gestures to a female job seeker during a video call. The purported footage was shared by BJP leader Tajinder Bagga, claiming Singh exposed himself to the 21-year-old woman. Both opposition parties demanded Singh's immediate expulsion, comparing the incident to similar controversies involving another AAP leader.
The National Commission for Women took cognisance of the matter, with chief Rekha Sharma expressing shock and announcing a formal probe. Balkar Singh, a former deputy commissioner of police from Jalandhar who retired from the Punjab police in January 2021, currently represents the Kartarpur Assembly constituency as an AAP MLA.
The controversy emerges as Punjab prepares for Lok Sabha elections, with voting scheduled for June 1 across all 13 seats in a single phase.
