Sankla Village Cremation Ground In Disrepair; Villagers Struggle During Monsoon

The cremation ground in Sankla village, Sehore district in Madhya Pradesh, lies in a state of disrepair, creating significant difficulties for residents performing last rites. The facility's tin roof has collapsed, and the access road has deteriorated, making cremations particularly challenging during the monsoon season.
With a population of 2,200, the village relies on this single cremation ground. Heavy rainfall damages the wooden funeral pyre and exposes bodies to the elements. Residents recently faced severe hardship when heavy rain fell during a cremation, forcing family members and villagers to perform the rites in wet conditions.
Villagers have demanded that the local administration renovate the cremation ground, particularly to address the four-month monsoon period when funeral arrangements become severely complicated.
