SC Judge Bhuyan: No authority can tamper with Indians' voting rights

Supreme Court Justice Ujjal Bhuyan has asserted that no authority can interfere with Indians' fundamental right to vote, comparing any such tampering to removing the soul from a body.
The judge's remarks come against the backdrop of concerns over alleged voter deletions during the Special Summary Revision (SIR) exercise. However, Justice Bhuyan did not directly reference the deletion controversy in his statement.
His comments underscore the judiciary's protective stance on voting rights, a core feature of India's electoral democracy.
