Supreme Court quashes another NSA order, orders UP govt to release Sambhal violence accused

The Supreme Court has quashed another National Security Act (NSA) order issued by the Uttar Pradesh government and directed the immediate release of an accused related to the 2024 Sambhal violence.
The apex court criticized the state government for the arbitrary invocation of extraordinary preventive detention laws. The court also ordered the UP government to pay ₹10 lakh in compensation to the accused.
This marks another instance of the SC intervening against what it termed as misuse of preventive detention provisions by the state authorities.
