US SEC proposes wider retail investor access to private assets
The US Securities and Exchange Commission has proposed new rules to broaden access to private assets, traditionally reserved for high-net-worth investors. The changes aim to allow more professionals to qualify as accredited investors, potentially offering higher returns.
However, critics have raised concerns that the expansion could expose retail investors to substantial risks and higher fees. The proposals also include modifications allowing closed-end funds to redeem shares more frequently and offer multiple share classes.
