Southern Railway implements accessibility measures at Tambaram station

Responding to accessibility concerns at Tambaram Railway Station, Southern Railway has announced measures to assist elderly and persons with disabilities. The railway has stationed 13 wheelchairs at various locations and instructed porters to use wheelchairs instead of luggage trolleys for passenger assistance. Elderly passengers can access wheelchair support for a prescribed charge of ₹100, while persons with disabilities receive free assistance.
The railway has also mandated porter adherence to prescribed rates and displayed information about services at prominent station locations. Assistance including support for boarding trains will be available temporarily until a new Foot Over Bridge is commissioned. Officials stated that ongoing work to smoothen trolley paths and ramps for wheelchair navigation will be completed within one to two days, and the pathways are currently usable with escort assistance.
