Soybean farmers protest in Ujjain over price disparity at mandi

Farmers in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh blocked the road outside Tarana Krishi Upaj Mandi on Monday, protesting low soybean prices at the market. They alleged bids at the mandi were around ₹4,400, while the same produce fetched ₹5,200 to ₹5,600 outside. The farmers blamed limited trader participation—only two or three bidding—for preventing competitive pricing.
Protesters also raised concerns about drinking water, toilets, weighing scales and storage arrangements. Area MLA Mahesh Parmar visited the spot and accused market officials and traders of collusion. He questioned the conduct and assets of market employees and demanded action against one he said repeatedly represented traders. The protest lasted around three hours before police and tehsildar persuaded farmers to clear the road.
