SSB seizes 325 kg cannabis in Arunachal Pradesh, arrests one

The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), in coordination with Arunachal Pradesh Police, seized approximately 325.5 kg of cannabis from West Kameng district on Friday. Troops from the 61 Battalion SSB, Bhairabkhunda, carried out the operation and arrested one person. The seizure comes weeks after Assam Police recovered over 307 kg of ganja near the Arunachal Pradesh border.
Arunachal Pradesh has emerged as a major producer of narcotics, particularly opium and cannabis, with cultivation occurring in remote, difficult-to-access terrain. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has directed all agencies to remain vigilant against narcotics trafficking through northeastern states near the Golden Triangle. The state government has destroyed 18.587 acres of illegal poppy cultivation and 64.59 acres of cannabis cultivation so far, according to Chief Secretary Manish Kumar Gupta.
