Supreme Court Upholds Bihar's Higher Sugarcane Price Fixing, Dismisses Factory Appeals

The Supreme Court has dismissed appeals filed by sugar factories challenging the Bihar government's decision to fix higher sugarcane prices for growers and millers. The court upheld the state government's price-fixing action, which was carried out pursuant to an agreement reached with both growers and millers under the Bihar Sugarcane (Regulation of Supply and Purchase) Act.
The ruling sustains the state's authority to recover revenue from factories for the difference between the government-fixed price and the price initially paid by the mills. The decision reinforces protections for sugarcane farmers in the state under the regulatory framework.
