Tamil Nadu faces power shortage as demand peaks, unscheduled cuts resume
Tamil Nadu is grappling with a significant power shortage as electricity demand peaked this September at 20,500 MW, substantially higher than 16,000–17,000 MW recorded in the same period last year. The state faces a deficit of over 3,000 MW, forcing the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL) to procure an additional 2,000 MW from external sources.
The surge in demand has triggered unscheduled power cuts across the state as TNPDCL struggles to meet consumption levels. The corporation's efforts to bridge the gap through power purchases indicate ongoing strain on the state's electricity supply infrastructure.
