Tamil Nadu faces backlash over temporary nursing contract plan

Tamil Nadu's decision to recruit 4,724 staff nurses on temporary contract basis has drawn criticism from the Nurses Empowerment Association. The association's general secretary expressed concern over the plan, citing the paradox of acute nurse shortages in government hospitals while nearly 4.75 lakh registered nurses remain unemployed across the state.
The association views the temporary recruitment model as problematic given the large pool of qualified, jobless nurses available in Tamil Nadu. The move raises questions about employment practices in the health sector.
