Teachers burdened by non-academic duties, administrative overload: An opinion

Teachers across India face relentless administrative burdens that divert them from their core mission of educating students. Beyond classroom instruction, educators are assigned election duties, census surveys, health record management, nutrition tracking, and vaccination drives. This expansion of non-teaching responsibilities strains the profession significantly.
The situation is worsened by redundant bureaucratic oversight. Mandatory digital attendance tracking and repeated submission of service documents—appointment orders, regularization papers, and training certificates—multiply throughout the year. Frequent training seminars and online workshops disrupt academic calendars and fragment student learning.
Compounding these challenges, many teachers experience chronic salary delays despite performing these extensive duties. The profession demands streamlined administrative processes, centralized digital record systems, timely salary payments, and protection of instructional time to allow educators to focus on their fundamental responsibility: teaching.
