Telangana CM Blames Centre for Delays in Hyderabad Metro Expansion

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Monday alleged that administrative and political hurdles are preventing the release of necessary funds for the next phase of Hyderabad Metro expansion. At a press conference, he said the project, which could be a major infrastructure achievement, is now mired in delays, financial disputes and political interference, threatening the progress of one of the city's most critical transport projects.
Reddy attributed initial delays to objections raised during the previous government's tenure, which pushed back timelines and increased project costs. He noted that construction delays and the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic have increased financial burdens on the metro operator, forcing it to operate at a loss despite creating thousands of crores in infrastructure assets.
