Telangana panel recommends Rs 5 lakh aid to parents of boy killed in stray dog attack

The Telangana Human Rights Commission has recommended Rs 5 lakh compensation to the parents of a three-year-old boy who died following an attack by a pack of stray dogs in Medak district on July 18, 2025. The child, Master Nithun Powar, was brought dead to Area Hospital, Narsapur, with multiple dog bites recorded as the cause of death.
The commission took suo motu cognisance of newspaper reports and sought a comprehensive government report on stray-dog bite deaths in Telangana between 2020 and 2025. It found lapses by local authorities and Panchayat Raj officials in Medak district, noting that timely preventive measures could have averted the tragedy.
Under Section 18 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, the commission directed the Chief Secretary to disburse Rs 5 lakh within three months. The Medak collector was tasked with pursuing sanction and payment. The TGHRC stressed the need for sustained, coordinated measures to control the stray-dog menace.
