Tiruppur trustees plant 15,000 saplings at Orathupalayam reservoir to offset pollution
Trustees representing prominent industrialists in Tiruppur have initiated a large-scale tree-planting drive at the Orathupalayam reservoir basin, planting 15,000 new saplings. The initiative is framed as an effort to address environmental damage caused by dyeing and bleaching units that operated in the region before stricter pollution controls were implemented.
The greening project comes as industrial units adopted Zero Liquid Discharge systems and wastewater recycling measures. The trustees view the afforestation effort as a form of reparation for historical pollution impacts on the dam and its surrounding ecosystem.
