Tripura to convert unused tea areas for industry and tourism

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced Thursday that the state government plans to repurpose unutilised tea cultivation areas for industrial and tourism-related projects. Of 12,832 hectares allotted for tea cultivation, only around 6,000 hectares are currently in use, officials said.
Saha cited land scarcity as a barrier to investor interest following a July business conclave that drew over 1,200 delegates. The state cabinet has already approved the proposal. He said investors are approaching the government seeking land for tourism ventures, medical colleges, and hospitals.
The CM also announced plans to introduce super-speciality courses at Agartala Government Medical College and GBP hospital. The National Medical Commission recently approved 100 additional MBBS seats for both institutions, bringing the total to 250.
