UP Panchayat Polls: Final Voter List Released, Over 40 Lakh New Electors Added

The Uttar Pradesh State Election Commission has published the final electoral roll for the upcoming three-tier Panchayat elections, completing a major milestone ahead of the rural polls. The updated voter list has been released at the district level after authorities completed the process of verifying claims, objections and corrections submitted during the revision exercise.
According to officials, the final roll reflects a significant expansion in the voter base across the state. More than 1.81 crore new names were included in the electoral database, while around 1.41 crore entries were removed following verification and scrutiny. As a result, the voter list has recorded a net increase of nearly 40.19 lakh electors compared to the previous roll.
The publication of the final electoral roll is expected to accelerate preparations for the Panchayat elections, which will be held across villages, block panchayats and district panchayats in Uttar Pradesh.
In a major technological upgrade, every Panchayat voter has now been assigned a unique nine-digit identification number. Election authorities said the new system is aimed at improving voter verification and streamlining election management. Voter details, including photographs, will also be available digitally to help ensure greater transparency during polling.
For the first time in Panchayat elections, election officials are expected to use a mobile-based verification system. Through the application, polling personnel will be able to instantly check whether a voter has already cast a ballot, reducing the possibility of duplicate voting and strengthening electoral integrity.
The draft electoral roll had originally been published on December 18, 2025. Since then, authorities processed a large number of objections and correction requests. More than 21 lakh voter records were amended during the revision process, while extensive verification led to the removal of ineligible entries.
The publication of the final list witnessed multiple extensions as officials worked to resolve pending claims and objections. Election authorities stated that the exercise has now been completed and the final roll has been made available for public access.
Meanwhile, several residents in different districts reported difficulties accessing and downloading the voter list from official online portals due to technical issues. Officials are expected to address these problems to ensure voters can easily verify their details before the election process moves forward.
