Raids on 317 restaurants in UP; major lapses in food safety uncovered

In Uttar Pradesh, the Food Safety Department, under the 'Shuddh Hi Shubh Hai' campaign, conducted inspection drives at 317 hotels and restaurants across 6 major districts. The inspections found serious shortcomings in hygiene and food quality at several well-known and small establishments.

The department found several violations, including expired and moldy food items, the presence of cockroaches, storing vegetarian and non-vegetarian food together, and unclean kitchens. In response to these shortcomings, the department has recommended cancelling the licenses of some establishments.
