US Suspends Cognizant's Green Card Filings in Visa Fraud Probe

The US Department of Labor has suspended Cognizant's permanent labour certification (PERM) filings as the Trump administration investigates alleged fraud in employment-based visa programmes. The suspension means Cognizant cannot submit fresh PERM applications until the investigation concludes. Cloudera has also faced similar suspension following an inquiry involving the White House Fraud Task Force.
US Department of Labor Inspector General Anthony D'Esposito announced the action, stating the administration would take a tough stance against practices deemed harmful to American workers. PERM is a key stage for US employers seeking to sponsor foreign employees for permanent residency, requiring proof that qualified US workers are unavailable and foreign employment would not adversely affect wages or working conditions.
The action marks the latest in a nationwide probe launched in July targeting visa programme irregularities. The suspension could have wider implications for India's technology sector.
