Swimming is My Passion: Utkarsh Patil on Asian Games Success and Olympic Goals

Indian swimmer Utkarsh Patil recounted his unconventional introduction to swimming, beginning at age three when he jumped into his apartment complex pool wearing an uninflated life jacket. His formal training started during a school summer camp in second or third grade, where a coach recognized his talent and encouraged competitive swimming.
Patil reached the finals of both the men's 100m and 200m backstroke events at the Asian Games, clocking personal best times. He began as a butterfly swimmer before transitioning to backstroke. In an interview, Patil reflected on his competitive journey, discussing his Olympic aspirations and highlighting the need for greater depth and modern training infrastructure in Indian swimming.
