Uttar Pradesh approves automated vehicle testing stations across districts

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has approved the establishment of Automated Testing Stations (ATS) across the state to improve vehicle fitness standards. The new 'State Policy-2026' replaces an earlier August 2023 order.
Each district can now set up three ATS centers, with each center capable of testing up to 24,000 vehicles. The government has eased operational requirements: land requirement reduced from 2.5 acres to 1 acre, and the mandatory net worth requirement of ₹6 crore has been removed. Centers will also receive a six-month grace period for compliance.
Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh stated the policy aligns with central Motor Vehicles Rules guidelines. The new policy takes effect immediately and imposes no additional financial burden on the state government.
