Uttar Pradesh launched Kisan Karwan 2.0 in Gorakhpur on Wednesday with the aim of strengthening farmer engagement and highlighting agricultural sector challenges. The inaugural Kisan Mahasammelan at Yogiraj Gambhir Nath Auditorium drew over 1,300 farmers, with Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi as chief guest and Gorakhpur Division Commissioner Indra Vikram Singh as guest of honour.
Three panel discussions covered Kala Namak rice, sugarcane cultivation, and agricultural technology, featuring expert input from scientists and progressive farmers. Agriculture Minister Shahi briefed participants on state schemes and initiatives. Ten Krishi Veers (agriculture champions) from various districts were honoured with certificates and mementoes, including Agya Ram Verma, after whom a new sugarcane variety was named.
A 20-member Kisan Parishad was also constituted to facilitate ongoing farmer engagement and dialogue on agricultural development.
