Vijay Shah Prosecution Sanction Pending Before Governor, MP Govt Tells Supreme Court

The Madhya Pradesh government informed the Supreme Court on Monday that a decision on prosecution sanction against state minister Vijay Shah is awaited from the Governor. The remarks made by Shah against Colonel Sofiya Qureshi triggered the case. A bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant heard arguments from the Additional Solicitor General representing the Special Investigation Team.
The High Court had initiated suo motu cognisance of the remarks on May 14, 2025 and directed registration of a criminal case. Shah subsequently moved the Supreme Court against the order. The Court was informed that if prosecution sanction is granted, a chargesheet will follow; if denied, a closure report will be filed.
