Viral Protest! BJP Councillor Celebrates Birthday Inside Sewage-Filled Drain, Says '30 Complaints Were Ignored'

In a unique protest that has grabbed widespread attention, BJP councillor Kishan Nayak celebrated his birthday while standing inside a sewage-filled drain in Uttar Pradesh's Agra, alleging that repeated appeals to civic authorities over poor drainage and sanitation have gone unheard for years.
The protest was held near the Langde Ki Chowki Hanuman Temple, where Nayak cut a birthday cake placed inside the open drain. Standing knee-deep in dirty water, the councillor was joined by local residents and supporters, who raised slogans and backed his demand for immediate action to improve the area's drainage system.
Nayak said he chose this unusual form of protest because the condition of the drain has worsened over time and poses a serious threat to public health, especially with the monsoon season approaching. He warned that waterlogging, mosquito breeding and unhygienic conditions could create major problems if authorities continue to ignore the issue.
The BJP leader claimed that he had submitted more than 30 letters to the Mayor and the Municipal Commissioner over the past three years, requesting that the drain be cleaned and properly constructed. Despite repeated representations, he alleged that no meaningful action was taken by the Agra Municipal Corporation, forcing him to stage the symbolic protest.
Highlighting the seriousness of the issue, Nayak also alleged that the neglected drain has already led to tragic accidents. He claimed that two children and a farmer lost their lives after falling into the open drain, while another child remains missing. He accused civic officials of ignoring repeated warnings despite the alleged risks to residents.
