Visakhapatnam's data centre expansion to require ₹23,000 crore water infrastructure push

A proposal to Andhra Pradesh's Chief Minister outlines substantial water storage infrastructure needed to support Visakhapatnam's expanding data centre sector. The plan calls for a 10-15 tmc ft expansion of the Yeleru reservoir alongside five balancing reservoirs of 5 tmc ft each, spread across up to 12,500 acres and fed from the Polavaram Left Main Canal.
The ₹23,000 crore investment reflects the scale of water management required as the city positions itself as a major data centre hub. The infrastructure expansion aims to ensure adequate water supply for the energy-intensive facilities while managing the region's water resource constraints.
