Stones Fly During Indore RE-2 Road Clearance; 2 Injured, 8-9 Detained

Tension erupted in Indore's Kanadia area on Tuesday when an Indore Municipal Corporation and district administration team faced stone-pelting during a demolition drive to clear structures blocking the unfinished RE-2 road stretch. The operation began around 11 am in Bicholi Kankad, Shiv Nagar and Shiv Darshan Nagar with heavy police presence and heavy machinery deployed.
Residents opposed the action, leading to stone-pelting at removal teams and police. Police detained eight to nine people, and two persons were injured and hospitalised. Officials said around 70 to 80 houses were covered during the drive after residents were counselled to remove belongings.
RE-2, a 4.25-km road project, has seen 3.20 km completed over several years with ₹55 crore spent. Around 325 families from affected areas have been rehabilitated, with 303 shifted to housing units. The remaining stretch has remained unfinished for approximately three years.
