Over 37 lakh appeals pending after Bengal SIR: EC tells Supreme Court

The Election Commission informed the Supreme Court that over 37 lakh appeals remain pending following the Special Invalidation Results (SIR) process in West Bengal. The SIR was conducted to address electoral irregularities and disputed votes from the state assembly elections.
The massive backlog of appeals represents a significant administrative challenge for the poll body. The EC's disclosure to the top court highlights the scale of post-election review work still outstanding in the state.
