Should children be involved in political campaigning?

Justice D. Bharatha Chakravarthy of the Madras High Court has said that it is for Parliament to decide whether involving children in election campaigning should be made a ground for setting aside the election of a candidate.
The observation raises a question about the boundaries of political campaigning and the protection of minors. Campaign activity involving children has long been a point of concern for election watchdogs and child rights advocates.
The judge's remark placed the issue squarely before the legislature rather than the courts, indicating that any change to the law on grounds for election disqualification or setting aside would need a parliamentary decision.
The matter is likely to draw attention from political parties, election officials and child welfare groups as the debate over the role of minors in public campaigns continues.
