Over 7.95 lakh execution cases pending over 6 months in 19 high courts: Amicus report

An amicus curiae report has found that 7.95 lakh execution cases are pending for over six months across 19 high courts in India. The delay is attributed to multiple systemic bottlenecks, including stays of proceedings, objections from judgment-debtors, adjournments sought by lawyers, and non-cooperation from authorities.
The report highlights that similar hurdles exist uniformly across different jurisdictions, suggesting a widespread structural problem in the execution of court decrees. These delays have compounded the backlog in India's already overburdened judicial system.
