A Delhi court has convicted former Aam Aadmi Party councillor Tahir Hussain in connection with abetting rioting during the 2020 Delhi riots. The court found him guilty of charges related to his role in inciting violence during the communal clashes that occurred in the national capital.
Hussain, who represented a ward in East Delhi, had been accused of involvement in the riots that claimed dozens of lives and left many injured. The case against him centred on allegations that he abetted the rioting activities during the period of violence.
The court has scheduled a hearing on the quantum of sentence for November 16, when arguments will be heard to determine the appropriate punishment for the conviction. The outcome will be announced following submissions from both prosecution and defence counsel.
