Conservation activists oppose Theppakadu Elephant Camp modernisation plan
Conservation activists have expressed concerns over a ₹35 crore modernisation project for the Theppakadu Elephant Camp, which houses 27 elephants. The century-old facility is slated for upgrades under the plan.
Conservation biologist and National Board for Wildlife member Priya Davidar stated she has "strong misgivings" about the project. She cited concerns that the construction work would take place in the core area of a tiger reserve and critical elephant habitat, potentially impacting the region's wildlife.
