Chief Justice Agarwal outlines five principles for AI in arbitration at India Digital ADR Summit

The inaugural India Digital ADR Summit 2026 convened at the National Forensic Sciences University, Gandhinagar on September 12, 2026. The session, titled "Artificial Intelligence in Arbitration: Enhancing Decision-Making Without Replacing Human Judgment," brought together judicial and legal experts including Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal of Gujarat High Court, former Supreme Court judges M.R. Shah and Rajesh Bindal, and Attorney General R. Venkataramani.
Chief Justice Agarwal emphasised that while technology can improve efficiency in dispute resolution, adjudicative judgment must remain human-centric. She highlighted the need to understand and harness technology to strengthen dispute-resolution mechanisms. Former judge M.R. Shah called for speedy and affordable dispute resolution systems.
The summit, organised by NFSU's School of Law in collaboration with the International Digital Dispute Resolution Centre, aimed to define the evolving role of technology in arbitration and arbitration systems.
