AIIMS Bibinagar Trains Medical Students as Suicide Prevention Gatekeepers

AIIMS Bibinagar has launched a training programme for MBBS and nursing students to serve as suicide prevention "gatekeepers". The initiative focuses on building capabilities in empathy, active listening, and timely referral of individuals requiring professional mental health support.
The gatekeeper model trains frontline personnel to identify warning signs, provide compassionate response, and connect at-risk individuals with appropriate medical and counselling services. By equipping medical students with these competencies early in their career, the institute aims to strengthen the healthcare system's capacity to prevent suicide.
