AISA President Neha Bora draws inspiration from Bangladesh unrest for Indian protests, sparks controversy

Neha Bora, national president of the All India Students Association (AISA), the student wing of the Communist Party of India Marxist–Leninist Liberation, has drawn parallels between ongoing Indian protests and Bangladesh's political turbulence of August 2024, which led to the removal of the elected government.
Bora credited the "Gen-Z movement" in Bangladesh as a source of inspiration for demonstrations in India. Her remarks came after Nahid Islam, a Bangladesh activist involved in that country's unrest, expressed support for Indian protest movements including the Cockroach Janta Party agitation and referenced the Shaheen Bagh demonstrations that occurred in Delhi.
The Bangladesh political crisis of 2024 resulted in PM Sheikh Hasina's departure and was followed by communal tensions. Bora's endorsement of drawing lessons from that episode has drawn criticism from those concerned about the parallels she appears to be drawing between the two nations' political situations.
