‘Amit Shah Behind TMC Split’: Congress Alleges Plot To Boost NDA Numbers In Lok Sabha

A fresh political storm erupted on Monday after the Congress accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of orchestrating the rebellion within the Trinamool Congress, claiming the development was aimed at strengthening the NDA's position in Parliament.
The allegation came a day after 20 rebel Trinamool Congress MPs announced their merger with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) and sought separate recognition in the Lok Sabha.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh launched a sharp attack on Shah, alleging that the breakaway was not a spontaneous political move but part of a larger strategy to alter the balance of power in Parliament.
“Amit Shah has masterminded the illegal breakaway of TMC MPs,” Ramesh alleged, claiming that the move represented a serious challenge to democratic norms and parliamentary traditions.
The Congress leader further argued that the merger with the little-known NCPI could significantly change the political arithmetic within the NDA alliance. He claimed that the development was designed to help the ruling alliance move closer to a stronger position in the Lok Sabha.
Ramesh also questioned how a relatively unknown political outfit could suddenly emerge at the centre of national politics after absorbing a large group of sitting MPs.
The controversy follows the decision of the rebel TMC lawmakers to merge with the NCPI, a registered but unrecognised political party with roots in Tripura. The dissident MPs have maintained that their objective is to reform and rebuild the political movement they once represented.
Meanwhile, the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress has strongly opposed the move and reportedly raised objections under anti-defection provisions, arguing that the merger lacks legal validity.
