Amit Shah Reviews Assam Flood Situation in Call With CM Himanta Biswa Sarma; 16,000 Affected in Dhemaji

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday spoke with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to review the flood-like situation in several parts of the state, officials said. During the discussion, Shah assessed the extent of damage caused by rising river levels and assured full support from the Centre for relief and rescue operations.
Authorities said the Union Home Minister took detailed stock of the evolving situation and was briefed on the impact in affected districts. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported that around 16,000 people have been impacted across 69 villages in four revenue circles of Dhemaji district due to flooding.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been closely monitoring the situation and said the state government is actively engaged in relief efforts and rehabilitation planning for affected families. He added that all available resources are being mobilised to ensure timely assistance to those impacted.
The situation has also affected transport infrastructure in parts of the state. Railway services between Archipathar and Simen Chapari in Dhemaji were suspended after flooding and erosion damaged a railway bridge, officials from the North Frontier Railway said. They noted that a section near KM 408/11-13, built in 1965, was affected after riverbank erosion destabilised one of its piers following heavy rainfall.
Officials continue to monitor the situation as rainfall persists in parts of Assam, with emergency teams deployed in vulnerable areas.
