Another Blow For Mamata Banerjee As TMC MP Prakash Chik Baraik Quits Rajya Sabha

The political turbulence within the All India Trinamool Congress appears to be deepening, with Rajya Sabha member Prakash Chik Baraik stepping down from the Upper House on Thursday.
The resignation marks another setback for the party led by Mamata Banerjee and comes amid a series of departures that have triggered fresh speculation about internal unrest within the organisation.
In his resignation letter, Baraik expressed gratitude to the Rajya Sabha leadership and Secretariat for their support during his tenure and requested that his resignation be accepted with immediate effect.
Speaking to reporters after the development, Baraik indicated that he had taken the decision after considering public sentiment. When asked whether he was planning to join the BJP, he avoided a direct answer and simply remarked, "Time will tell."
The resignation has further reduced the Trinamool Congress's strength in the Rajya Sabha and comes shortly after the exits of Sukhendu Sekhar Roy and Sushmita Dev, intensifying concerns within the party.
Political circles are also abuzz with reports suggesting that more TMC parliamentarians could be weighing similar moves, although no official confirmation has been made.
Baraik, a prominent tribal leader from northern West Bengal, entered the Rajya Sabha in 2023 on a Trinamool Congress ticket. During his tenure, he frequently highlighted issues affecting tea garden workers and advocated for welfare measures for labourers in the region.
The latest resignation comes at a time when the party is also facing reports of dissent within its legislative ranks. According to political sources, disagreements over leadership decisions have sparked unease among some lawmakers, creating fresh challenges for the ruling party in West Bengal.
While the TMC has not officially commented on the broader implications of Baraik's departure, the development is likely to fuel speculation about shifting political equations ahead of future electoral battles.
