Mamata Banerjee expresses shock over Kolkata Durga Puja stampede that killed 17

West Bengal's TMC chief Mamata Banerjee expressed deep shock and sorrow over a stampede at the Chore Bagan Sarbojanin Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata that claimed 17 lives and left at least 40 injured. The incident occurred on Saturday evening during Navratri's seventh day when a large crowd gathered to worship the goddess.

A section of the pandal collapsed under the pressure of the surging crowd, triggering a stampede at the venue in North Kolkata. The injured were rushed to hospitals for medical treatment.

Banerjee took to social media platform X to express her condolences, saying she prayed to Maa Durga for the speedy recovery of all those injured and for strength and courage for their families during this difficult time.
