TMC MP raises drinking water denial issue at UNHCR, alleges religious discrimination

A Trinamool Congress MP has written to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) regarding the denial of drinking water supply to Jyoti Nagar Colony in Kolkata. Samirul Islam alleged that water supply to the locality was halted following the BJP's assumption of power in West Bengal.
Islam claimed the water cut-off was linked to the religious identity of residents. "Because the residents are Muslims and are not considered part of the BJP's so-called vote bank," he stated in his complaint.
The complaint marks an escalation of the dispute over municipal services in the locality, with the TMC representative seeking intervention from international human rights mechanisms.
