Andhra Pradesh Challenges High Court Order on BC Reservation in Local Bodies

Andhra Pradesh has filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging a High Court order that struck down the 34 per cent reservation for Backward Classes in political positions within gram panchayats and urban local bodies.

The reservation policy had been implemented to ensure representation for BC communities in local governance structures across the state. The High Court's decision to quash this provision has prompted the state government to seek intervention from the apex court.
