Armed Forces to review higher retention rates for Agniiveers after first batches complete service

The Armed Forces are set to conduct a comprehensive review of retention policies for Agniiveers as the first batches of recruits complete their service tenure. The assessment will examine whether higher retention rates are feasible and beneficial for military operations and readiness.
The Agniveer scheme, introduced to bring in short-term military personnel on fixed contracts, has been under review since its rollout. Officials plan to evaluate data from the initial cohorts to determine optimal retention levels and identify areas for policy adjustment.
The review comes as the defence establishment seeks to balance operational requirements with the scheme's core objective of creating a younger, more dynamic force while managing long-term personnel commitments.
