Assam CM Backs CEC Gyanesh Kumar Amid Opposition Impeachment Push Over SIR Row

The political row over the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise has intensified as opposition parties plan another motion seeking the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has backed the CEC amid the escalating confrontation.
The controversy stems from reports that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi raised objections multiple times during the SIR process. The Election Commission stated its final decisions were taken unanimously and that differing views are normal in institutional deliberations.
