Assam CM blames Nagaland mining for floods, denies illegal mining in state

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has attributed ongoing floods in the state to mining activities in neighbouring Nagaland, stating he will raise the matter with the Centre. Sarma asserted that there is no illegal mining occurring within Assam's borders.
The state government will begin damage assessment from August 9 as the death toll from the floods climbs to 87. Organisations based in Nagaland have disputed Sarma's claims linking the flooding to mining in their state.
