Elephants in Assam face mounting human-induced dangers

Wildlife specialists in Assam have rescued elephants trapped in man-made hazards in recent days. One elephant was freed from a tyre lodged around its neck, while another that had been caught in a wire-mesh trap received treatment for injuries to its trunk.
The incidents underscore growing threats to elephants from human activities and infrastructure. Experts point to expanding human settlements, discarded waste, and poorly maintained traps as key sources of danger to the animal population.
Wildlife authorities continue efforts to protect elephants and reduce human-wildlife conflict in the state through rescue operations and awareness initiatives.
