Cockroach Janta Party to Launch 'Jail Bharo Andolan' at Shivaji Park Over Election Commission Row

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is set to launch a 'Jail Bharo Andolan' at Mumbai's Shivaji Park on October 2 at 4 pm, led by founder Abhijeet Dipke. The protest targets Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Mumbai Police have denied the CJP's permission request, citing a 2013 Bombay High Court order and the area's status as a silence zone.
Simultaneous protests are planned in Delhi at Jantar Mantar, backed by opposition figures including Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan, AAP leaders Atishi and Manish Sisodia, and student groups. The CJP has outlined three key demands: Kumar's resignation and criminal proceedings, freezing the SIR and restoring the January 2025 voter list with an independent inquiry, and repealing the 2023 Election Commission appointment law. Opposition parties have criticised the SIR, while the Election Commission maintains its three-member body took decisions unanimously.
