India invited Bangladesh as BIMSTEC Chair, not for BRICS: Dhaka clarifies

Bangladesh has clarified that India's invitation to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was extended in her capacity as the Chair of BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation), not as a member of BRICS.

The clarification comes amid speculation about Bangladesh's potential involvement with the BRICS grouping. Dhaka emphasized that the invitation specifically pertained to Hasina's role as BIMSTEC Chair, addressing earlier confusion about the nature and scope of the engagement.
