Bank Strike Disrupts ₹2.57 Lakh Crore in Transactions Across Indore District

A nationwide strike by public sector bank employees on Friday resulted in significant disruption to banking operations in Indore's Madhya Pradesh district. Approximately 650 of the 848 bank branches in the district ceased operations, affecting transactions worth over ₹2.57 lakh crore.
Across the state, around 4,000 bank employees participated in the strike, impacting about 7,000 out of 8,700 branches and disrupting banking business valued at approximately ₹15 lakh crore. Over 800,000 bank employees nationwide observed the one-day strike, which affected all 12 public sector banks, 13 organized private sector banks, cooperative banks, and regional rural banks.
The United Forum of Bank Unions called the strike to protest a two-and-a-half-year delay in approving a five-day work week agreement and unresolved pending demands. In Indore, bank employees conducted rallies and demonstrations, including a march from the Bank of India to the State Bank of India on Prince Yeshwant Road, with notable participation from female employees.
