Ajit Agarkar Reportedly Tells BCCI He Won't Continue As Chief Selector

Ajit Agarkar, chairman of India's senior men's selection committee, has reportedly communicated to the BCCI that he does not want to continue in the role beyond his current tenure, which expires on October 4. According to reports, Agarkar made this decision known to the board on Thursday, a day before the BCCI's 95th Annual General Meeting. He had already indicated to BCCI officials in February that they should identify alternatives.
The BCCI did not take a final decision on Agarkar's future at Friday's AGM. Instead, the General Body authorised BCCI office-bearers to decide on the men's selection committee. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stated that 15 days remain in Agarkar's tenure and a decision would be made shortly.
Agarkar became chairman of the selection committee in July 2023. Under his stewardship, India reached the 2023 ODI World Cup final, won the 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy, and oversaw major team changes across formats.
